Inspirational Jaydan in running for youth award

August 15, 2025

Jaydan Ahmat, a Senior Aboriginal Youth Coordinator in WA, has been named a finalist in the WA Youth Awards for 2025.

Nominated in the Most Outstanding Youth Worker Award, Jaydan has led youth music programs nationwide—including in Don Dale Youth Prison—and worked with organisations like WAYJO, YARN, and Abmusic.

Now a Senior Aboriginal Youth Coordinator at the Edmund Rice Centre in WA, he runs four free weekly programs, empowering youth through culture, leadership, and creative expression.

Home Safe, part of the long-standing Youth at Risk Strategy, is a multi-agency response supporting at-risk youth in Perth’s CBD/Northbridge.

Nominated in the Youth Focus Sector Collaboration Award through culturally safe, trauma-informed outreach, it diverts young people from custody, connects them to support, returns them to a safe location, and strengthens community safety through early intervention and collaborative, youth-informed care.

31 inspiring young people and youth workers, along with 13 youth organisations or collaborations are in the running for an award.

The finalists were selected from over 130 nominations, highlighting the passion, dedication and talents of young Western Australians.

All category winners receive a framed award and a $1,000 prize.

One of the individual finalists will be named the 2025 WA Young Person of the Year and will receive $10,000 to support a youth-related initiative or activity across Western Australia.

“The WA Youth Awards are a fantastic initiative to recognise the outstanding achievements and talents of young people right across Western Australia, and the sector that supports them,” Youth Minister Hannah Beazley said.
