
New research to detail extent of racism in the workplace
A major study examining the extent of racism against First Nations people in workplaces will be launched in Sydney this week based on a survey of more than 1,100 Indigenous employees.
The Centre for Indigenous People and Work (CIPW) at the University of Technology Sydney will release Gari Yala 2 (Speak the Truth), a survey of more than 1,100 Indigenous employees.

Director of CIPW, Professor Nareen Young, said the results of the research will be a wake-up call to employers and all levels of government.
“Although, many people are likely to find the findings of our research disturbing, the report also details positive strategies that can be employed to overcome racism,” Prof Young said.
Gari Yala 2 (Speak the Truth): Centering the Work Experiences of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Australians in 2025-2026 was conducted by the Centre for Indigenous People and Work at the University of Technology of Sydney. CIPW stated that the survey reached more than 1,100 Indigenous employees, centring their workplace experiences.
The study also measures changes since the first Gari Yala study conducted six years ago, providing a comparison point for understanding progress and persistent gaps in workplace experiences for First Nations people.

The launch is scheduled for Wednesday March 11, from 10:00 am at the UTS Business School in Ultimo in Sydney.
