New record for FISH recycling scheme in the Kimberley
The Foundation for Indigenous Sustainable Health (FISH) team has celebrated a new record this week of stopping 29,636 containers going to landfill in the remote Kimberley Region of Fitzroy Valley.
Since opening their Containers for Change social enterprise the organisation has stopped a total of 131,551 containers going to landfill.
The scheme has seen local community groups benefit through income from the 10 cents refund paid for each container dropped off.

“We could not have achieved this outcome without the great work of our local team,” Sustainability Manager Jason Dinning said in a Linkein post.
“We have only just begun to do what we can do together with Containers for Change, and 2026 will be very exciting as we look at innovative ways in working together and trialling new approaches to working in remote communities to stop containers from going to landfill.”
One of FISH’s key focusses is about caring for country as they empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to drive their own change, while at the same time becoming socially and economically self-sustaining.

If you don’t live in Fitzroy Crossing you can still support the work of FISH by being a container saver! Every 10c container returned to a refund point gets another chance to live its potential again while assisting FISH in caring for country and our work.

Most aluminium, glass, plastic, steel and liquid paperboard drink containers between 150ml and 3L can be saved. Just look for the 10c mark on the packaging.
