Connect to Kambarang on Wadjemup/Rottnest Island

Honouring the Noongar season of Kambarang, and Whadjuk Noongar culture, Connect to Kambarang is taking place on Rottnest Island this weekend.

The program includes free family friendly experiences such as artisan markets, art and craft activities, weaving workshops and cultural yarning.

Connect to Kambarang immerses visitors in the stories and art of Wadjemup’s Traditional Owners and the island’s cultural history.

“Connect to Kambarang gives a meaningful opportunity to honour Whadjuk Noongar culture and respectfully engage with the stories of the island’s Traditional Owners,” Aboriginal Affairs Minister Don Punch said.

“The opening of the Connections to Wadjemup exhibition is significant, giving voice to 50 Aboriginal artists and their personal ties to Wadjemup.

New exhibition

“These initiatives reflect the Government’s commitment to truth-telling, cultural recognition and economic empowerment for Aboriginal people.”

Alongside Connect to Kambarang, a new exhibition has opened at Wadjemup Museum. Titled Connections to Wadjemup, the exhibition features mixed media artwork from 50 Aboriginal artists across Western Australia, sharing their personal connection to Wadjemup.

All artwork is available for purchase, with 100 per cent of proceeds going back to artists. Connections to Wadjemup is open until mid 2026.
