Libs vote to reduce welcome to country ceremonies
The Liberal party in Western Australia has voted to support the move by some right wing political groups to scale back of Welcome to Country ceremonies across the country.
Delegates at the state council, the WA branch of the party, backed the motion for fewer ceremonies during a closed-door meeting in Perth on Saturday.
It was introduced alongside a proposal to remove the Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander flags from behind the Prime Minister at press conferences.
The move comes after One Nation leader Pauline Hanson and her party turned their backs on a ceremony in the Senate in Canberra last week.
