Supply Nation welcomes move to prioritise procurement rules

Supply Nation has welcomed the announcement by Senator Katy Gallagher to prioritise Australian businesses in Government purchasing, stating greater participation by Australian businesses in government procurement will have a positive net benefit to the economy.

Supply Nation recently announced a new national milestone with its corporate, government and non-profit members recording a total of over $5.83 billion in procurement spend with verified Indigenous-owned businesses in the 2024-25 financial year. This figure represents an increase of $1.23 billion from the last financial year.

Government agencies (Federal, State and Territory) and local councils recorded procurement spend of $1.52 billion or 26 per cent of the overall total.

“Procurement by government portfolios from Indigenous-owned businesses is a powerful driver of economic empowerment leading to better health, education and well-being outcomes amongst Indigenous Australians,” a spokesperson said.

The announced reforms of the Indigenous Procurement Policy (IPP) will also assist in building a sustainable and successful Indigenous business sector.
