Ranger housing project milestone in WA

December 23, 2025

The Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation in northwest WA has announced that construction of four houses for the Murujuga Rangers will begin in February.

Each house, to be built by Timik Developments on land in Karratha that is owned by MAC, will have four bedrooms and two bathrooms.

The project is funded by the WA State Government, through the Department of Housing and Works’ ACCO Aboriginal Employee Housing Grants Program.

Left to right, MAC Chairperson Peter Hicks, Ranger Operations Manager Peter Cooper and Rangers Riley Sebastian, Jerome Churnside and Sarah Hicks inspect the site of a future MAC Ranger house.

MAC Project Manager Jim Maddison said the houses had been designed in close consultation with the Ranger team, and would suit younger Rangers sharing a house, as well as separate living for senior staff.

It is anticipated that houses will be fully finished and ready to live in by February 2027.

National Park access road alignment confirmed

Plans for a new access road through Murujuga National Park have taken a step forward, with the preferred road alignment now confirmed.

The Murujuga National Park Access Road will link Withnell Bay and Conzinc Bay on the Burrup Peninsula, improving community access while safeguarding Murujuga’s environmental and cultural values.

Over the past year, MAC has worked closely with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions and the City of Karratha to progress concept designs for the road and visitor facilities, supported by detailed cultural heritage surveys and in close consultation with the Murujuga Circle of Elders.

This work has strengthened understanding of Murujuga’s cultural and natural landscape and informed a sensitive approach to infrastructure development.

Earlier this month MAC distributed 271 grocery cards worth $500 each to Elders and Members aged 55-plus, but they are asking if everyone eligible received one,

“While we have done our very best to contact every member who is eligible to receive these cards, there are a few we cannot reach.” Mac said in a statement.
