January 3, 2026

Northern Territory police have charged a 61-year-old man over the hit-and-run death of a 27-year-old Indigenous woman in Darwin on December 27.

The woman was found on the roadside by a passerby on an unlit road in the suburb of Ludmilla but died before emergency services arrived.

After an investigation police arrested and charged the 61-year-old with one count of hit-and-run causing death on January 2.

Senior Constable Craig Tregea told the ABC members of the public involved in a traffic crash were legally required to stop, render assistance where possible and notify police.

“Failing to do so can have serious legal consequences, particularly where a person is injured or killed,” he said.
