Last chance to sponsor a National Reconciliation Week banner
To celebrate and recognise the importance of National Reconciliation Week (NRW), the Reconciliation Street Banner project was created.
Last year, over 300 banners were flying high in prominent street locations across Western Australia, featuring Darryl Dempster’s artwork, Snake Nest.
For 2026, Melissa Sunfly’s artwork, Murrunpa, will adorn the banners and a new range of merchandise.
Melissa is a talented emerging artist working with Warlayirti Artists in the East Kimberley.
Two significant events
A proud Kukatja/Ngardiwoman, Melissa is part of a new generation of Aboriginal artists carrying forward powerful stories, deep cultural knowledge, and strong connections to Country through contemporary visual art.
National Reconciliation Week runs from May 27 to June 3 annually and commemorates two historically significant events in Australia’s reconciliation journey – May 27 marks the anniversary of the successful 1967 referendum and June 3 marks the anniversary of the Mabo decision.
Individual or family sponsorships are now being sought where the name of the sponsor would fly alongside Melissa’s artwork.
Workplace or community groups can also sponsor, with their logo featured on the banner to highlight collective commitment to reconciliation.
