Indigenous design in new Aussie cricket shirt

September 9, 2025

The new 2025-26 Australian cricket shirt will see a cultural shift with celebrated indigenous artwork to a more prominent position on the shoulders.

Renowned Aboriginal artist Aunty Fiona Clarke has updated her signature Walkabout Wickets artwork for the new kit.

Titled ‘Land & Sea’, the design continues the tribute to Australia’s first-ever touring cricket team, the 1868 Aboriginal XI.

“I am both honoured and proud to have created the artwork for the players’ uniforms,” Auntie Fiona said.

Mitchel Starc models the new design.

“It’s powerful to see today’s players carry the story of the first Aboriginal XI Cricket Walkabout team with them.

“This artwork is about more than a shirt design, it’s about honouring those who came before us.”

The relocation of the Indigenous artwork from the side panels to the shoulders was a decision informed by science.

Heat mapping from the ASICS Institute of Sport Sciences indicated that the brand’s ‘acti-breeze’ technology performed most efficiently on the sides, working alongside an ergonomic underarm mesh panel for better movement.

And the addition of the Westpac logo marks a new sponsorship contract between the bank and Cricket Australia.
