Forum aims to strengthen healthcare outcomes
The Aboriginal Health & Medical Research Council of NSW, in partnership with Aventedge, will present the National Indigenous Healthcare forum next month at the Australian National Maritime Museum in Sydney.
The gathering, from August 5-7, will bring together First Nations health leaders, Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations, healthcare practitioners, policymakers, researchers and sector partners to strengthen community-led approaches to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.
The forum aims to provide a culturally grounded space to share practical approaches to workforce sustainability, culturally safe care, prevention, wellbeing and self-determined healthcare, while centring First Nations leadership, community-led initiatives and shared learning across services, programs and communities.
Keynote speakers include a ministerial address from Rebecca White MP, Professor Tom Calma, Nicole Turner, Karl Briscoe, Dr Clinton Schultz and Tanya McGregor, along with First Nations health leaders, policy advisors, community-controlled sector representatives and senior healthcare decision-makers.
The program plans to highlight real-world approaches to strengthening Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes, with sessions focused on workforce capability, culturally grounded care, prevention, wellbeing and self-determined healthcare.
Participants will engage in an On-Country Workshop and Cultural Cruise, creating space for reflection, cultural connection and practical learning that can be carried back into services, programs and communities.
The Aboriginal Health & Medical Research Council of NSW is the peak body for Aboriginal health in NSW, representing more than 50 Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) across the State.
It supports its member services to deliver high-quality, culturally safe primary healthcare and works with First Nations and non-Indigenous health organisations at local, state and national levels to strengthen a community-controlled health sector that responds to the needs of Aboriginal communities.
