Deadly Jobs Expo a focus on Aboriginal employment
The WA Government’s Deadly Jobs Expo is hoping to connect Aboriginal jobseekers with leading education and training providers and employers this week.
Hosted at Perth’s North Metropolitan TAFE’s East Perth Campus on August 22, the event will bring together 60 training organisations, employers, universities and service providers to showcase a wide range of education, skills development, and employment opportunities for Aboriginal people.
Jobs and training advice will also be available from the TAFE’s Koolark Centre for Aboriginal Students and Jobs and Skills Centre.
Employers will be recruiting Aboriginal people for jobs in a wide range of industries including tourism, construction, retail, resources, administration, government and healthcare.
“The Deadly Jobs Expo is a State Government event that brings together employers, education and training providers and community services in one place, supporting Aboriginal jobseekers to explore a wide range of local career options,” Skills and TAFE Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson said.
“If you’re an Aboriginal person looking for work – whether you’re fresh out of study, switching careers, or simply exploring what’s out there – this event is designed to connect you with pathways into work.
“Meet employers, discover local education and training options, get tips from industry pros, and chat with people who’ve walked the road you’re on now.”
A market will feature local Aboriginal businesses selling art, fashion, food and hand-crafted goods.
The Deadly Jobs Expo builds on the success of regional expos in locations including Derby and Fitzroy Crossing – part of the State Government’s broader commitment to support education, training and employment outcomes for Aboriginal people across the State.
A network of 19 Jobs and Skills Centres offer free, culturally responsive career information and guidance for Aboriginal people looking to start or grow their careers.
The State Government’s Fee-Free TAFE initiative offers Western Australians the opportunity to skill, re-skill or upskill in more than 140 priority courses, enabling them to be job-ready and participate in the State’s diversifying economy and a future Made in WA.
There have been 2,052 enrolments by Aboriginal people in Fee-Free full qualifications and skill sets this year.
The free Aboriginal Services Jobs Board lists employment opportunities for Aboriginal jobseekers to find jobs that match their skills and goals.
