$6 million boost for new Binar Community Hub
Binar Futures’ new multi-use sporting and community hub in Midland, east of Perth, is closer to becoming a reality, supported by a further $6 million boost from the State Government.
The new funding builds on a $12.5 million State Government election commitment towards the project, as part of its commitment to building stronger, safer and more inclusive communities.
Binar Futures is an Aboriginal-led organisation that engages thousands of young people across metropolitan, regional and remote Western Australia every year through sport, health, education, leadership and cultural programs.
The Binar Community Hub will be located near Moorditj Noongar Community College in Midland and will provide a modern, multi-use facility for students and the wider community.
Multisport engagement
Once complete, the facility is expected to be used by thousands of students, community groups and people from regional and remote WA, providing a range of spaces designed to support sport and active recreation, cultural education and youth development.
The proposed facility features eight indoor multi-purpose wooden courts for basketball and netball, dormitory-style accommodation for regional and remote participants, a gymnasium, an integrated health and education facility and an Indigenous Hall of Fame.
The project will enable Binar Futures to expand its delivery of programs that promote cultural identity, leadership and community participation among young people across WA.
The Government said it also supports Binar Future’s Indigenous Pathways Program, which engages more than 5,000 Aboriginal and disengaged young people across metropolitan and regional Western Australia through basketball clinics, tournaments, leadership and skills development initiatives.
