Kambu Health welcomes new chief executive officer

Kambu Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation for Health has appointed Dania Ahwang as the organisation’s new chief executive officer.

Board Chair Allan Fisher confirmed Ms Ahwang was selected following a rigorous recruitment process and brings extensive executive leadership experience within the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health sector.

“Dania, a proud Torres Strait Islander woman, is a highly respected leader who has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through community-led, culturally safe healthcare,” Mr. Fisher said.

“Her proven leadership, strategic vision and commitment to strong governance make her exceptionally well placed to lead Kambu Health into the future. The Board is excited to welcome her and looks forward to working alongside her as we continue to strengthen our services for community.”

Proven executive experience

Ms Ahwang previously served as CEO of Wuchopperen Health Service between 2018 and 2023, leading an organisation of approximately 300 staff and driving significant organisational growth, workforce development, and service excellence.

Her leadership experience also includes serving as chairperson of the Northern Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Alliance, Chairperson of Regional Health Partners, Deputy Chairperson of the Medical Research Future Fund Consumer Reference Panel, and Chief Executive Officer of the Torres Strait Island Regional Council.

A Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA), Ms Ahwang brings significant expertise in financial management, organisational performance, governance, stakeholder engagement and building trusted relationships with government, partners, and community.

The Board is confident Dania’s leadership will help build on Kambu Health’s proud 50-year history while positioning the organisation for continued growth.
