Barrambin / Victoria Park Evictions and Construction Dispute
Forced Eviction:
Queensland Police dismantled a protest camp at Barrambin (Victoria Park) in Meanjin/Brisbane. Traditional Owners and activists had camped there to protest the construction of a controversial $3.6 billion stadium for the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games. Several people were arrested during the operations.

Appeals Rejected:
The Federal Government dismissed emergency heritage protection bids lodged by Turrbal and Yuggera custodians. Bulldozers are scheduled to begin clearing the historically significant spring complex and ancient trees as early as today. Elders expressed deep sadness, stating the alleged heavy-handed response unnecessarily provoked community distress.

As National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June) continues under the 2026 theme “All In”, organisations are being urged to move past symbolic actions.
New Research Findings:
The University of Technology Sydney’s Centre for Indigenous People and Work released data showing that formal complaint procedures and anti-racism training drop reported workplace racism by over 20 per cent. Despite ongoing corporate diversity initiatives, over half of Indigenous workers across Australia still report experiencing workplace racism.

Reconciliation Day in Canberra:
The Australian Capital Territory has marked its unique Reconciliation Day public holiday with a massive family-friendly cultural event at John Dunmore Lang Place. Gumbaynggirr and Dunghutti artist Casey Donovan is headlining the day’s live performances and cultural workshops.

Diamonds Netball Recall:
Indigenous sharp-shooter Donnell Wallam has earned a recall to the Australian Diamonds netball squad. Following a dominant season with the Sunshine Coast Lightning, Wallam was named in the 18-strong national squad ahead of the upcoming Commonwealth Games selections.
