My Christmas … with Fiona Harrison
As Christmas approaches First Nations News has reached out to its readers to ask how they celebrate.
Today Australia’s First Indigenous Chocolate Company owner Fiona Harrison tells us about her Christmas.
How and where and with whom do you celebrate?
Each year it differs, with adult children and their partners travelling far and wide to alternate time with families across the country and globe, the constant being good friends and community.

Do you put up a tree and decorate your house/apartment?
Yes, I love to do this.
Presents .. what do you buy and what was the best present you have received?
We do Kris Kringle, and the quirkier the better. The best present I ever received was a gift from my daughter that read, “the older I get, the more I realise my mother was right about everything”.
With family at home, or visiting or just wth a partner or friend?
It’s an open door
Does your work, or has it, ever stopped a celebration?
No.
Do you take a few days off work off to blend in New Year as well?
Yes. I always say I’ll take the month of January off but launching Valentine’s Day usually pulls me back in the third week of January. And in the new year, I’ve an order for Tourism Australia and a bride to fulfil near the end of January.

Christmas away … if you have … what’s the best ‘Christmas holiday’ you have had?
No, always at home.
Christmas Eve … do you go to church or meet family friends for dinner etc?
No, usually getting ready for Christmas Day.

Christmas Day…
If you have children, what’s the earliest you have been woken up?
5am
Christmas dinner – or lunch? At home, on the barbie?
The crackle in the crackling is the holy grail, so it’s always a baked dinner.
Do you head out to the beach in the morning or a park?
No
Ham, seafood, turkey, veggie option? What’s your favourite and why?
Prawns, oysters and a baked pork & veg dinner.
Christmas drinks tipples – your favourites ?
A glass of moscato
And… New Years Eve … How do you celebrate bringing in the new year?
It’s usually quiet. 9pm fireworks and rarely make it to midnight these days.
