Men charged for attack on Camp Sovereignty
Neo-Nazi leader Thomas Sewell has been charged with several offences after allegedly attacking a First Nations protest camp in Melbourne on Sunday.
Sewell, 32, was allegedly among a group of men dressed in black who stormed Camp Sovereignty in King’s Domain after the March for Australia rally in Melbourne’s CBD.
Officers arrested Sewell and two other men outside Melbourne Magistrates’ Court yesterday afternoon.
Sewell and two other men were charged with violent disorder, affray, assault by kicking, discharge missile and other offences.
Bailed to appear at later date
Sewell was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, while the two other men were bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on December 10.
Police are continuing their investigation into the incident and have asked anyone with any information or footage that may assist them to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Indigenous Australians Minister Malarndirri McCarthy said the attack was like nothing she had seen in her nearly 10-year parliamentary career.
‘These people brazenly and openly did not care if they were seen,’ she said.
