The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation in WA is inviting expressions of interest from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people across the State to join the Aboriginal Water and Environmental Advisory Group (AWEAG).
This is an opportunity to share your knowledge, provide leadership and help shape the future of water and environmental stewardship.

New appointments will be made for a period of up to two years, with the option to apply for a second term.
Decision-making processes
Members appointed to the group will be paid and travel/accommodation costs are covered in accordance with the department’s policies.
As a member of AWEAG, individuals contribute skills and experience to give advice towards decision-making processes.
AWEAG members not only represent family and culture, but also help drive meaningful change for the benefit of the future for all Aboriginal people throughout Western Australia.
AWEAG members are leaders in their own right and contribute their cultural knowledge to shape the departments strategies, policies and programs that support the sustainable management of Western Australia’s water resources and environment.
The AWEAG plays a vital role in ensuring that Aboriginal worldviews, knowledge, values and priorities are meaningfully embedded in the department’s planning, programs and regulatory work across Western Australia’s environment and water sectors.
AWEAG is made up of representatives from seven regions across WA.
These regions include:
- Kimberley
- Pilbara
- Great Sandy Desert
- Geraldton – Mid West
- Goldfields–Esperance
- South West
- Perth
