August 25, 2025

Shane Hamilton has been appointed the new Chief Executive Officer for Aboriginal Hostels Limited.

Mr Hamilton is a proud Wakka Wakka and Bundjalung man from New South Wales with extensive experience across the public and private sectors.

He is currently the Deputy Secretary, Aboriginal Affairs in the New South Wales Premier’s Department and in that role has led many large-scale transformation projects with a clear connection to cultural integrity and strategic reform.

A former CEO of the Aboriginal Housing Office, Mr Hamilton’s appointment comes after the AHL Board conducted a rigorous merit-based selection process for the position.

“I look forward to working with Mr Hamilton and AHL as it delivers culturally safe and affordable accommodation options for First Nations people across Australia,” Minister for Indigenous Australians, Senator Malarndirri McCarthy said.

Aboriginal Hostels Limited operates a national network of accommodation facilities. AHL provides culturally safe and affordable accommodation that supports First Nations people to access services and economic opportunities.

Mr Hamilton’s appointment by the AHL Board will run for a period of five years.
