$4m generated from Darwin Aboriginal Arts Fair
Organisers of the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair believe more than $4 million has be generated from the event as 80 art centres and 1500 Indigenous artists took part in this year’s fair.
And 100 per cent of the sales at the event will go back to the centres and artists.
“It’s beautiful for people from all different states to come under one roof,” Larrakia artist Naomi Briston told the ABC.
“There’s so much love, so much art and so much culture being shared in this one room.”
And the revenue raised will assist many remote communities where there’s very little employment.
For many exhibitors it was also a place to come together and yarn.
It’s not just about the arts,” Kate Murphy from the Tjanpi Desert Weavers, who come from the central desert region of the Northern Territory, told the ABC.
“This provides a direct stream of income to women.”
