Winmar to face assault allegations

AFL great Nicky Winmar has been accused of two assaults and of intentionally choking a person, court documents have stated.

The charges were revealed after former St Kilda star Winmar, 59, appeared briefly in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The court was told he would remain free after prosecutors abandoned efforts to revoke his bail and have him taken into custody.

The application was struck out.

He will appear in court next month.
