$62 million invested in latest round of Ranger Program

June 8, 2026

Successful applicants in Round 9 of the WA government’s Aboriginal Ranger Program have been announced.

To date, the Government has committed a total of $176.5 million to support Aboriginal‑led land and sea management jobs in communities across the State.

Environment Minister Matthew Swinbourn said the Government was empowering Aboriginal people to lead land and sea management on their Country.

“I’m proud that through this major State Budget investment, we can continue supporting the Aboriginal Ranger Program and its partners, delivering jobs while protecting Country, culture and community,” he said.

Round 9’s three funding streams are:

  • Prepare – supporting Aboriginal organisations to undergo ranger-specific planning and preparation activities;
  • Activate – helping new ranger groups get started on Country; and
  • Sustain – continuing support for established ranger programs.

Since it began in 2017, the Aboriginal Ranger Program has supported employment on Country for more than 1,400 Aboriginal people.

Regional Development Minister Stephen Dawson said the Government continued to support Aboriginal rangers, building strong, healthy regional and remote communities, and we are proud to continue to invest in this program.

“Since 2017, the Aboriginal Ranger Program has supported employment on Country for more than 1,400 Aboriginal people, delivering real jobs while caring for Country in ways that are culturally informed and locally led,” he said.
